Twilkitri didn't, and had no need, to use the UPS format when he finished his translation project. In fact, it came long after he finished. You can patch it using LunarIPS, or other IPS patching utilities, or renaming as it was pointed out above. They can be used for softpatching in some emulators including the 'certain emulator' unlike xdelta. I do use xdelta for hardpatching (and keeping a reversing patch) of cd games but that is more a artifact of no existing emulator allowing softpatching of large roms (including the 'certain emulator' which hardcode disables it based on subemulator core) than anything else and it being the most. byuu, the author of this program, has more recently put out an updated UPS patcher, upset, as a replacement for Tsukuyomi UPS. So if you are using Tsukuyomi UPS it is recommended to use upset instead, if you are still using the UPS format.
byuu has also come out with another patch format called BPS that he recommends over UPS, and originally he put out his patcher beat for BPS. However, more recently, because beat is slow, his homepage now strongly recommends that people using the BPS format use the faster program Floating IPS by Alcaro for creating and applying BPS patches instead.
